Safera FlowHero already reduces energy consumption in dozens of professional kitchens across Finland. In new professional kitchens, our partner Climecon delivers FlowHero technology as part of its OptiDemand solution. In existing buildings, Safera upgrades current ventilation to FlowHero demand control with a straightforward retrofit.
The principle of demand control is simple: professional kitchen ventilation is controlled according to actual use and conditions, instead of running at full power on a time schedule even during lower load periods.
Our partner Climecon is the market leader in DCKV systems for new professional kitchens
Safera collaborates with Climecon, a manufacturer of ventilation solutions for professional kitchens. Climecon offers demand control based on Safera’s FlowHero technology under the OptiDemand product name as part of its professional kitchen hoods and ventilated ceilings.
OptiDemand solutions have been widely installed in professional kitchens across Finland. Climecon reports that with this solution it has become the clear market leader in DCKV system deliveries in Finland.
OptiDemand can be integrated into Climecon’s hood models and ventilated ceilings, so demand control can be considered as part of a new professional kitchen’s ventilation solution already at the design stage.
FlowHero brings demand control to existing buildings
A large share of Finland’s professional kitchens are located in existing buildings where kitchen ventilation still operates, for example, on a timer.
In these sites, FlowHero can be installed afterwards without replacing the entire ventilation system. The system’s multi-sensor technology monitors workstation use and air quality in the kitchen and controls ventilation in real time according to actual need.
FlowHero sites already include properties owned by Areim, Turun Teknologiakiinteistöt, Mandatum, Sokos Hotels, Castellum and Vierumäki, among others.
The results have been significant. For example, at Original Sokos Hotel Vaakuna, FlowHero is estimated to reduce ventilation energy consumption by 43 MWh and energy costs by €3,975 per year. The payback period for the investment is 1.8 years. At Areim’s Aallonharja, the realised energy saving in the first year was about 191 MWh.
From the first sites to broader rollouts
After successful first sites, FlowHero has been expanded to customers’ other buildings.
Areim has already upgraded several sites with FlowHero demand control. At the Kupittaa Pavilion of Turun Teknologiakiinteistöt, FlowHero’s impact was visible immediately in the property’s own energy monitoring, and at TriviumCity the airflow rate has been reduced significantly while still maintaining kitchen conditions. FlowHero is also being rolled out to other sites in the company’s portfolio.
The effects of demand control can be monitored from FlowHero’s ventilation control data and from the property’s own energy monitoring. This makes it possible to compare realised savings with the energy-saving calculations made before the investment.
The same technology for new and existing professional kitchens
In Finland, FlowHero technology covers both new construction and the existing building stock.
In new professional kitchens, Climecon has become Finland’s DCKV market leader with its OptiDemand solution. In existing buildings, Safera delivers a FlowHero solution based on the same technology as a retrofit to the current ventilation and building automation system.
FlowHero technology is thus used in a wide range of professional kitchens across Finland – from hotels and restaurants to staff restaurants and large production kitchens.
Adoption of the solution is supported by benefits for three different parties: a profitable investment for the property owner, easy commissioning for maintenance, and good conditions for kitchen staff.
Safera FlowHero is Finland’s most popular demand control kitchen ventilation for professional kitchens.
